Hello everyone! I wanted to update you on my research projects. As you know, my study on BRCA1/2 mutations that cause breast cancer has already been published in Curieux. I'm also pleased to share that I have submitted two additional manuscripts for publication: one on my UCSB SRA group research project and another on a secret project I have been working on for nearly a year.
I collaborated with my Track 4 group at UCSB last summer to write a research paper on the effects of antibiotic treatments on the normal flora in the human gut microbiome. We have just submitted the paper for publication to the Journal of Emerging Investigators, with the guidance of our research mentor, Kirstin Rollins.
I have been writing a sociology paper on mental health stigma and how it is culturally embedded in societies worldwide. I used anthropological insights to suggest stigma-sensitive care models tailored to different communities and their needs based on their beliefs and perspectives on mental health. It is important that these care models are sensitive and specialized for each individual culture to ensure their effectiveness. I have been working with my mentor, Kasey Discerns Morgan, PhD, to write this manuscript, and I am pleased to say that I have submitted it to The Schola and am now awaiting their decision.
I am eager to hear back from both journals regarding my manuscripts, as I am genuinely passionate about these topics. Publishing all three of these papers will complete my narrative on medical anthropology. Starting with cancer research, moving to antibiotic treatments, and concluding with mental health stigma, I have carefully crafted a view of medical anthropology that reflects my interest in the field. See you in the next one.
